Sea Shepherds Steve Irwin lijkt verlost van Japans 'veiligheids'schip Shonan Maru - Japanse walvisvaarder Yushin Maru vervangt Shonan Maru
Anti-whaling ship loses Japanese tail
04-01-2010 ABC News, Australia
The anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd is confident it has lost a Japanese ship tailing its flagship the Steve Irwin.
The Japanese security ship, Shonan Maru, has tracked the Steve Irwin since it began its latest campaign a few weeks ago.
The group's high speed boat, the Ady Gil, is now in the Southern Ocean looking for the Japanese whaling fleet.
Steve Irwin captain Paul Watson says the team hopes to meet the Ady Gil in the next few days.
"It looks like the Shonan Maru went back to refuel but was replaced by the Yushin Maru, which is one of the harpoon vessels, which is good, means it's not killing whales," he said.
"We were able to slip past them and they're nowhere near us. So we've lost that tail."
