BANGKOK (AP) - Thai customs officials say they have made the largest seizure of African ivory to date in the country, confiscating two tons of tusks that were destined for Laos.

Customs official Seree Thaijongrak says they confiscated the cargo labeled as mobile phone parts at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport after receiving a tip.

Seree said a Thai national who attempted to pick up the ivory was also arrested Wednesday night.

The ivory seizure valued at 120 million baht (US$3.6 million) is the largest to date. Seree said Thursday the bust illustrates that the country is becoming a key transit point for shipments from Africa to supply a growing demand for ivory goods in China, Europe and the United States.
