Kitten stranded in 50-foot tree

Bossier resident Angela Benfield has a dilemma: her 8-month old kitten has been stuck in a 50-foot tree since Saturday and it seems there is little hope of her coming down.

The kitten, named Ninja, ran up a rotting tree in the family’s back yard Saturday afternoon while possibly chasing squirrels. And Benfield has tried everything to get her down, even enticing her with a litter box and cat food.
“I don’t want her to starve or anything up there,” Benfield said today.
She called the Bossier City Fire Department, Bossier City Police Department and several animal service organizations for help but was not successful. She’s even gone as far as looking for a bucket truck to rescue the kitten herself.

The practice of performing animal rescues stopped several years ago, said Bossier City spokesman Mark Natale. ”It takes fire crews away from their availability to respond to other more serious calls.”
Natale added that in the past fire fighters have been injured by animals or while trying to rescue them.
If you can help, call Angela Benfield call (318) 230-8918.
