There are plans to build a deadly virus containment facility and animal testing lab in Camden on a Camden council housing estate, Somers Town alongside St Pancras International in Kings Cross behind the British Library. This affects not just the people of Camden but Islington also.

Islington council were not even told of the plans for the lab despite the fact that any virus leak would affect the people of Islington every bit as much if there were to be a quarantine situation for example. There are over 18,000 people on a housing waiting list in Camden and local people want the land used for housing and community facilities in one of the most deprived areas in the country. This has been criticised at government level and by MI5 who leaked fears to the Evening Standard.

The lab is opposed by MPs, councillors, residents and local businesses. The lab will hold deadly viruses such as Anthrax and Bird flu. Foot and mouth disease was leaked from similar government facility Pirbright in surrey. Such a leak in Central London would be catastrophic. The 1918 Flu pandemic was caused by a mutated form of Bird flu according to recent research. This was in the days before the London Underground and the Channel Tunnel...Now we are under threat of enforced Swine Flu jabs.

If the lab is built it could be used as an excuse by police and the Security Services [MI5 and MI6] to target communities [Muslim communities for example] under "terror" legislation. The backers behind the lab are : the MRC, NIMR, UCL, CRUK and Wellcome Trust.

We are Camden and Islington residents. We've included some photos of the Somers Town and Regents Park Estates [next door to each other] to show just how silly building a lab here is...and to show that this ISN'T what we NEED.
