Mink farming methods have come under the spotlight and agriculture minister vows more spot checks

The minister for food, agriculture and fisheries, Eva Kjær Hansen, has announced that every mink farm in the country will be subject to unannounced inspection control checks next year.

A number of investigative television and newspaper reports have highlighted the worrying conditions in which mink are kept on some farms.
‘I think they were really sickening images,’ the minister said.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) will be inspecting 150 farms in the next few weeks following the worrying reports. A further 44 farms have already been reported to the police for violating animal welfare laws.

There are about 1500 mink farms in Denmark, all subject to DVFA checks, and about 5 percent are usually visited every year.
