Katten in Tasmanië mogen gedood worden in 'katten-vrije-zones'..

Kill zones for stray cats in Tasmania

28-10-2009 TV NZ, New Zealand

Any cat caught in a declared feline-free zone in Tasmania can be killed by authorities under proposed new laws. Farmers will also be able to destroy any cat caught on their property, if it is found more than one kilometre from a home, under the legislation expected to become law later this year.

The Cat Management Bill 2009 allows councils and state authorities to declare parks and reserves prohibited areas for cats, where they can be trapped and humanely destroyed.

All domestic cats will have to be micro-chipped and de-sexed.

The new rules are expected to add $200 to the cost of owning a cat.
Only registered cat breeders will be excused from having to de-sex their animals.

No cat or kitten can be sold unless it is de-sexed and micro-chipped.

Breaking the new cat management rules will cost up to $6,000 in fines.

The bill is designed to provide for the control and management of cats while allowing for the humane handling of unidentified, stray and feral cats and reduce their effects on the environment.
