Dubai: The Veterinary Quarantine Authorities at the Ministry of Environment and Water have banned the entry of a shipment of live animals with epidemic diseases into the country.
Sultan Abdullah Alwan, Executive Director for Agricultural and Animal Affairs at the ministry, said the quarantine authorities have received information from a vet quarantine officer in Kuwait that they refused to unload a shipment of live animals.
The 950 sheep and goats, which have arrived from India, are allegedly showing symptoms of foot-and-mouth and Blue Tongue, and some animals have already died.
Alwan added that based on the reports all UAE borders have been ordered not to allow the shipment into the country to safeguard livestock here.
Owners of the shipment attempted to import the shipment at night from Ras Al Dara, but were stopped by quarantine and Customs.
