VietNamNet Bridge – The Asian Turtle Preservation programme (ATP) of the US zoo Cleverland Metropark will grant $20,000 to build a turtle rescue station in the central province of Quang Ngai.

This station will rescue and preserve the endemic turtle species in central Vietnam - Mauremys anammensis.

This species of turtle was discovered in the wetlands of Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen. The turtle is seriously endangered because of its narrowed living environment, caused by rapid urbanization.

ATP made a field trip to the central region and found out that Binh Son district in Quang Ngai province will be the best environs for these turtles and decided to locate the new rescue station there.

The station will host around 100 turtles from Cuc Phuong Turtle Preservation Centre and some other provinces.
