MAKASSAR: Although the authority has banned the use of animals in demonstrations, students in Makassar brought a pig to their rally on Tuesday.

The protesters rallied the pig from Universitas 45 campus to the provincial legislative council. The pig was draped with a photo of Vice President Boediono to mock the vice president whom they put blame for the Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million) Century bailout.

Past rallies saw a buffalo around among protesters, an unprecedented move that prompted the government to ban the use of animals in protests.

Elsewhere, protesters set fire to a President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's picture and burned used tires.
They also resorted to the blockade of a main road, causing a jam at the thoroughfare of the city.
