Prague - Naked female activists from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organisation protested against the use of natural fur, leather and wool in the fashion industry in Prague centre today.

Two girls dressed only in panties whose bodies were painted with a snake skin pattern were distributing leaflets, in which they pointed to the inhuman treatment of animals, to passers-by near Charles Bridge, the oldest bridge in Prague.

The protest held under the slogan "Wear Your Own Skin" was organised by U.S animal rights supporters.

Other PETA members today stripped at the Myslbek shopping Gallery in centre.

The activists said they would thereby call on people to buy clothes and accessories made of synthetic leather and artificial fur.

Crocodiles whose leather is used for luxurious accessories and other animals bred for fur, such as minks, are being drastically killed by cruel means, the activists pointed out.

However, the PETA activists mind wool products as well because most of wool comes from Australia where sheep must undergo a very painful "mulesing" procedure in which strips of their wool-bearing skin is removed from around the buttocks without any analgesics.

Various celebrities, such as U.S. singer Pink, have participated in the PETA international campaign.

The PETA activists in swimsuits staged an event in support of the animal rights in Prague last September as well when they were protesting outside the British Embassy against the killing of bears for the traditional caps of the British Royal Guard.
