Handbag hedgehogs... the new must-have

We are now accustomed to the sight of Paris Hilton and her tiny pooch tucked safely into a handbag and we've accepted the latest celebrity pet of choice, the micro pig. But there's a new pet on the block and it looks set to become the latest must-have accessory.
But animal welfare experts are up in arms about these charming critters being marketed as fashion accessories.
Janet Thornton of the North West Animal Welfare rescue centre in Warrington, told The Telegraph: "These hedgehogs are not fashion accessories. These are disgusting deplorable people who swap and change their pets like their outfits."
Just what is so appealing about the pygmy hedgehog? Well, not only are they the perfect size for your perfect purse, they are cheap to keep and come in an astonishing variety of colours, including albino, apricot, chocolate and salt and pepper.
Diana Mather, a self-proclaimed style guru, explained: "These lovely little animals should make a perfect present for the trend setter who has everything."They're ideal for designer mums to give to their children."
The African pygmy hedgehog is a delightful little creature which is increasingly seen gracing designer kitchens and peeping out from the handbags of our fashionistas."
The question is whether this is a handbag must-have, or just handbag madness?
