Nov 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka's only Zoological gardens located in Dehiwala, a suburb of Sri Lankan capital Colombo, has lost 16 animals during the last two months due to various reasons.

The most recent death was reported this morning at the Dehiwala Zoological gardens of the only Syrian bear due to an undisclosed ailment.

Additionally a baby pygmy hippopotamus that was in poor health in the last few weeks has also died, a senior official of the Zoo confirmed.

Earlier this month another baby pygmy hippopotamus of ill health died at the zoo.
