The center was set up in Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province on Sep. 17, 2009.

Also known as the Chinese double-horned gazelle, the przewalski's gazelle mainly inhabit the perimeter areas around the Qinghai Lake. It has been designated as a critically endangered species of the world by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and is on the top of the list of endangered gazelle species.

In a bid to improve the habitat environment and living conditions of the animal and step up patrolling, the center was established in the intensive care zone for przewalski's gazelles in Gangcha County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

The center made efforts to raise 30,000 yuan from Gonggongma Village and the Qinghai Lake Farm to build a monitoring station in the intensive care zone.

Meanwhile, it has drawn 200,000 yuan from the forestry departments of Qinghai Province to build three paths and drinking pools for the gazelles.

Another a half million yuan was granted by the European Society for the Protection of Plants and Animals to purchase protective equipment, upgrade part of the fences, and feed the gazelles with forages in winter.

Thanks to the efforts of the center, the number of przewalski's gazelles has been on the increase.
