Workers from the Animal Rescue League of Berks County removed 41 animals and a frozen dead skunk from a house on North 11th Street, the league said Tuesday.
League officials did not have a more specific address for the house.
Removed Saturday were 19 dogs, 13 cats, three birds, three opossums, two lizards and a tarantula.
The dead skunk was in a freezer.
The animals were living in filthy conditions, said the Cumru Township-based league. Some animals had to be euthanized, the league said.
The league was called by someone who knew the animals were in the house and not receiving care because the only female resident who lives there is in Berks County Prison on unrelated charges, league officials said.
Authorities have not decided whether charges will be filed against the woman, the league said.
The remaining animals will be put up for adoption once they are deemed to be healthy, the league said.
Some animal hoarders begin with the best intentions to rescue animals but often end up in over their heads, the league said.
The Rescue League asks that anyone who knows of a similar situation contact the league at 610-373-8830.
